I study the past with an eye toward systems, tracing how people and things interacted to generate new ways of living together. This focus on historical associations both emerges from and strengthens my commitment to advancing organizations and initiatives. I have been lucky since my childhood to collaborate on school board campaigns, local food security efforts, creation of new community recreation opportunities, graduate employee contract negotiations, and lay church leadership.
